Application processing times

The Chairperson of the Accreditation Council, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Bargstädt, and the Management of the German Accreditation Council, Dr. Olaf Bartz, declare on 03.02.2025:

“Unfortunately, the German Accreditation Council is currently unable to process applications for program and system accreditation as quickly as would be desirable. More applications for program accreditation are being submitted than expected, and the time required per application is still higher than assumed in 2017/18 when the new accreditation system was introduced.

We are currently prioritizing initial and concept accreditations in order to be able to deal with them 12 weeks before a meeting of the Accreditation Council when the application is submitted. However, we are currently unable to do this in individual cases.

We apologize for this as well as for the often significantly longer “waiting times” of applications for reaccreditation. If applications are submitted in good time, expiring program accreditations will be extended until the Accreditation Council makes a decision and then retroactively accredited. System-accredited higher education institutions can continue to issue internal accreditations.”
