After graduating from high school, Markus Wiedemann studied law at the University of Augsburg and completed his legal clerkship in the Munich Higher Regional Court district. After his 2nd state examination in law, he began his professional career in the Baden-Württemberg state administration. After holding positions at the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the State Ministry, he has been Head of the Department of Policy Issues of University Development, International Affairs, Legal Affairs, Studies and Teaching, Social Support for Students at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science since July 2019.
