Prof. Dr. Heike Faßbender

Prof. Dr. Heike Faßbender (1963) studied mathematics at the University of Bielefeld. After graduating, she completed a Master’s degree with a Fulbright Scholarship in Computer Science at the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA, from 1989 to 1991. She then moved to the University of Bremen as a research assistant, where she completed her doctorate with distinction in 1994. Interrupted by numerous stays abroad, Professor Faßbender continued to work at the University of Bremen as a research assistant. After her habilitation in 1999, she accepted a temporary C4 professorship at the Technical University of Munich in April 2000. She has been Professor of Numerical Mathematics at TU Braunschweig since October 2002. From 2004 to 2019, she headed the Numerics working group at the Institute of Computational Mathematics, of which she was Managing Director from 2004 to 2010 and from 2017 to 2019.

She has headed the Institute of Numerical Mathematics since 2020. From 2007 to 2008, she was the founding Dean of the Carl Friedrich Gauss Faculty and from 2008 to 2012 Vice President of Teaching, Studies and Continuing Education at the Technische Universität Braunschweig. Professor Faßbender was President of the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics from 2017 to 2019 and was its Vice President until the end of 2022. In addition to being a member of the Presidium of the German Mathematical Society and the Presidium of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, she is a member of numerous other professional organizations.

She has been a member of the University Council of the University of Wuppertal since 2017. She has also worked as an expert in program and system accreditation procedures in Germany as well as in audits in Austria. From 2013-2017 she was a member of the ZeVA Audit Commission. She has been a member of the Accreditation Council since 2018.
