Timo Gayer

IG Metall Trade Union Secretary

Timo Gayer (1981) studied vocational education, personnel management and work and organizational psychology at the Technical University of Darmstadt. From 2005 to 2010, he was involved in operational and managerial roles in education policy projects at national and international level. Since 2011, he has been working for the IG Metall Executive Board in the area of education and qualification policy – first as a project manager, then from 2015 responsible for vocational training research and higher education policy. Mr. Gayer is on the working committee of the Joint Working Group Ruhr University and IG Metall and has been on the advisory board of the German Association for Scientific Continuing Education and Distance Learning since 2016 and alternating chairman of the Committee for Vocational Education and Training Research at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training since 2017. He assesses research proposals for the Hans Böckler Foundation and is chairman of the selection committee “Hochschule & Zweiter Bildungsweg”, which is responsible for awarding scholarships. From 2012 until today, he has been a trade union representative of the HBS, the BIBB and the BMBF as an advisor in various research and transfer projects.
